Head Coach: Peter Lofthouse
Head Coach Peter Lofthouse will be in his fifth season skippering the Sailors of Newport Harbor High School. Prior to coaching at Newport Harbor, Coach Lofthouse was the Head Coach at Mesa Junior College in San Diego. Coach Lofthouse guided the Sailors on an amazing journey last season, helping them to find the wind in their sails at just the right time, as they were able to claim a CIF Southern Section Division VI Championship.

Friday, October 21st, 2022 vs. Corona del Mar Known as “The Battle of the Bay”, these two longtime rivals slug it out for the right to be known as the superior Football program in Newport Beach. A friendly, yet fierce rivalry, between the Sailors and Sea Kings makes this annual game one of the most entertaining there is in all of Southern California.Outlook:
There is nothing better or more exciting in California high school Football than winning a CIF championship, and the Sailors know that feeling well as they were able to do so this past season. The Sailors have a very competitive non-league schedule this year, which will include a trip to Hawaii to play Farrington High School of Honolulu. With some key players returning and a motivated, talented team, the Sailors will look to duplicate the success that they had in 2021.Offense:
The Sailors will have a new helmsman running their offense this season. Quarterback Colton Joseph, a talented passer, with tremendous speed who transferred to Newport Harbor from San Juan Hills will give the Sailors an offensive attack that will create some issues for opposing defenses. Senior Kashton Henjum, who had 108 receptions at Wide Receiver last season, which earned him First Team All Sunset League, and All CIF honors, will be the main target that Joseph will look to in the Sailor’s offense. Henjum is a tremendous route runner, who creates open space to run in, which will enable him to find the end zone often for the Sailors. The multi-talented Junior Josiah Lamarque who can play either Wide Receiver and Running Back will make significant contributions to a Sailor offense that returns six starters from last season’s championship team.Defense:
Newport Harbor will have a variety of different defensive looks that they will employ this year, as there are so many high powered and dynamic offenses in the Sunset League. The leader on defense for the Sailors will be the gifted Defensive Back Carson de Avila who collected multiple awards last year including team MVP, 1st Team All Sunset League, and All CIF. He is a ferocious hitter who led the entire state of California in tackles for a Defensive Back during the 2021 campaign. Billy Ridley and Garrett Emerson, who both also star on the Newport Harbor Track and Field team, will lock down wide receivers in coverage with impressive speed. Junior Josiah Lamarque will also contribute to this extremely gifted secondary unit with his speed and ball skills. Junior Jacob Carlon will lead a group of Linebackers that mix up their looks and can be effective from numerous formations. The Sailors run various blitz packages with this group and mix in some creative stunts from the Defensive Line. This defensive unit returns ten starters from last year’s team, so they are very familiar with what it takes to play the type of defense that leads to championships.Special Teams:
The Special Teams unit will be lead by a strong legged Kicker named Jon Richardson, who is currently ranked #15 in the Chris Sailer Kicking rankings for his class. The talented Junior can be seen routinely hitting 55 yard field goals in practice without even using a tee. Junior Noe Avalos will handle the punting duties for the Sailors. Avalos hits booming punts, and averages more than 40 yards per boot, which is right on par with the best NCAA Division I punters.Additional Information about the Newport Harbor High School Sailors Football Team:
