Lincoln San Diego VS Los Alamitos Griffins
The Los Alamitos Griffins held on to beat San Diego-based Lincoln High School on Friday night, 21-17.
After a commanding victory against Bakersfield in the season opener, Los Al came back to earth against the 25th-ranked (maxpreps ranking) Hornets. Thanks to some clutch defensive plays, the Griffins were able to stay ahead for back-to-back wins to open the season.
With the benefit of 6 sacks and 1 interception, Los Al was able to suppress the Hornets through the very last play of the game and secure the win. Lincoln’s QB Jalen Daniels’ past pass into the end zone fell incomplete as time expired.
Malachi Nelson threw for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns. Alec Wills would get credit for 81 of those yards and a score.
Los Al enjoyed a 21-3 lead at the half, but would fail to score for the rest of the game, allowing Lincoln to come within one play of an upset victory. Fortunately for the Griffins, the last-ditch attempt was swatted away, and Los Al would remain undefeated on the season.
