Los Alamitos ends season undefeated in conference play
Los Alamitos quarterback Malachi Nelson threw six touchdowns and rushed for another in a dominating 68-0 win over Fountain Valley on Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Griffins scored on every possession in the first half. Los Alamitos claimed the league title and finished Sunset League play undefeated.
“We started really fast and we wanted to keep the temp up early,” Nelson said. “I told my coach freshman year that I’ll never lose a league game as a starter and we never did. We gotta keep this momentum going in the playoffs.
On the first play of the game, Nelson hit Ethan O’Connor for a 63-yard touchdown. O’Connor, who committed to UCLA before the game, raced past the defense for the score.
Nelson gave the Griffins a 14-0 lead with a 21-yard scramble for the score. After forcing a punt, Ja’Myron Baker caught a short pass and outran the defense for a 49-yard touchdown. This was Nelson’s 100th career touchdown.
Baker hauled in a 49-yard reception to set up the Griffins with first and goal from the 1-yard line on their next possession. Nelson connected with Carson Clark for a 1-yrs touchdown and a 27-0 lead in the first quarter.
Nelson added two more touchdowns and the Griffins scored 41 unanswered points in the first quarter. The USC commit eluded a sack and found Chase Grosfeld down the right sideline for a 43-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Damian Henderson’s only carry of the game was a 57-yard touchdown to give the Griffins a 55-0 lead at halftime.
The Griffins played its backups in the second half and Anthony League took advantage of the opportunity with a 56-yard touchdown run. Jaden O’Neal added a touchdown from three yards out to give Los Alamitos a 68-0 lead.
